Want a quick way to create your own, good looking iBeacons? Heres how to take an off the shelf BLE key finder and turn it into a iBeacon.
First your will require a CC-Debugger and a VTAG key finder, these can be found on amazon and ebay as well as many other places. Prices vary wildly from £11 to £30 so whether this means they have different insides I cannot say.
Crack open the VTag and remove the PCB, hopefully it should look like the image here. The five pads at the top are what you are interested in. You need to connect these up to your CC-Debugger
P2_1 should be linked to DD on the Debugger (Pin 4)
P2_2 should be linked to DC (Pin 3)
The rest should be self explanatory.
Next its just a case of flashing the CC2540 with your iBeacon software. You can find ours on the CC2540 iBeacon blog.
Thats it, package it back up in the case and there you go a working iBeacon in a pretty case…
